As a member of our Geospatial Team, you will be part of Global Maritime’s industry leading Geosciences Business Stream. You can expect to support wind farms around the world through cable risk quantification and mitigation; cable route engineering design; integrated geological ground modelling; foundation scoping and optioneering; vessel traffic assessments, AIS analysis and modelling; and multi-client seabed characterisation reports. You will also support development of new tools and products such as our 3D Cable Burial Risk Assessment, Survey Management Platform, and voxelised ground model delivery.

 

Role Purpose

Perform geospatial analysis, data management and engineering, and data modelling, to support offshore wind and energy projects. Support the design, development, and maintenance of geospatial applications, tools, and services. Assist with proposal writing, group marketing, R&D and technical development in accordance with Global Maritime’s quality management system.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform spatial and 3D analysis, data management and spatial planning/design of infrastructure
  • Participate in engineering, consultancy, and advisory projects
  • Support the development, testing, and deployment of geospatial applications, APIs, and web services, using code versioning and deployment tools such as GitLab.
  • Develop tools for geospatial data processing, analysis, and visualisation.
  • Build and optimise spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SpatiaLite).
  • Implement and support the use of mapping, charting and data analysis libraries by the wider Geospatial Team (e.g., ESRI Javascript SDK, Leaflet, OpenLayers, pandas, plotly).
  • Automate geospatial workflows using primarily Python (ArcPy and open-source tools e.g. GDAL, Rasterio, GeoPandas).
  • Ensure high performance, scalability, and security of geospatial applications.
  • Support the maintenance of a containerised environment.
  • Stay updated with emerging trends in geospatial technology and open-source tools.
  • Prepare cartographic deliverables such as technical charts, 3D models, and web applications
  • Work collaboratively within an integrated geoscience team comprising cable engineering, engineering geology, geophysical and geotechnical disciplines
  • Interface with other Business Streams within Global Maritime
  • Write technical notes and contribute to reports
  • Assist in the marketing of Global Maritime

 

Specific Skills, Knowledge and Experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Earth Sciences, Computer Science, Geomatics, or another related discipline. Master’s degree considered advantageous.
  • Initial experience in the geospatial field, with experience in marine environments, renewable energy, and geology considered advantageous.
  • Graduate Member of a professional institution and working towards Chartered Geographer status
  • Working ability in a range of geospatial tools (e.g., Esri Platform, QGIS, Global Mapper)
  • Appreciation of programming languages (e.g., Python, Javascript, SQL, Java/C#)
  • Experience with geospatial libraries (GDAL, GeoPandas, Shapely)
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills
