Position Description

 

Advertised Job Summary
The faculty of the Department of Geography at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a full time, professional-track position at the rank of Instructor to begin August 16, 2026. The position is a 9-month appointment with a teaching load of 8 courses for the academic year (4-4 load). This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.

The successful candidate is expected to teach courses in advanced and emerging geospatial technologies, including GEOG 105 – The Digital Earth, GEOG 263 – Introduction to GIS and advanced courses such as Spatial Programming, WebGIS, Geostatistics, GeoAI, or GeoIntelligence with potential applications across diverse disciplines on campus. Other courses may be taught as agreed to by the department chair. The teaching load is four courses per semester and may include online instruction.
Required Education and Experience
  • Candidates must have a PhD in Geography, GIScience, or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment.
