The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking an IT Database Admin Analyst II. This position is within our Technical Services Bureau. The successful incumbent will be stationed at our Headquarters office situated adjacent to the Boise Greenbelt, the MK Nature Center, and Kristin Armstrong Municipal Park in Boise.

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Administers and manages new or existing databases within production SQL Server including user permissions, maintenance of data dictionaries/documentation, monitor data usage, automate data processes and data transformation methods. The administration of databases will require the incumbent to build upon existing and establish new governance frameworks to ensure data are captured efficiently and accurately while adhering to data management standards.
  •  Interacts directly with partners to gather data requirements and then redesign existing or design new databases and data products based on business needs.
  •  Participates in the evaluation and selection of database technologies to fulfill business requirements.
  • Plans and tests database upgrades for compatibility, forecasts storage and infrastructure needs. Analyzes and optimizes data usage and reporting to accommodate stakeholder digital data capture needs. Configures and supports SqlServer requirements tied to the ArcGIS Enterprise platform.

  • Good knowledge of relational database principles and data normalization. (Typically gained by obtaining an associate's degree or certification related to relational database concepts and data normalization OR at least one year of full-time work experience (including combination of work experience and internships) regularly working with and supporting relational databases as part of your primary job responsibilities.)
  • Good knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL). (Typically gained by current certification related to Structured Query Language (SQL) design or administration AND at least one year of full-time work experience (including combination of work experience and internships) writing, testing, and utilizing SQL as part of your primary job responsibilities OR at least two years of full-time work experience (including combination of work experience and internships) writing, testing, and utilizing SQL as part of your primary job responsibilities.)
  • Experience installing, administering, and monitoring production databases and database servers. (Typically gained through at least one year of full-time work experience (including combination of work experience and internships) installing, administering and monitoring production databases and database servers as part of your primary job responsibilities.)
  • Experience technically interacting directly with clients to analyze customer needs. (Typically gained by at least one year of full-time work experience (including combination of work experience and internships) interacting with clients to analyze customer needs as part of your primary job responsibilities.)

 

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and motivated mid-level database administrator with a working knowledge of SqlServer, geographic information systems software (particularly the ESRI suite), Python, RStudio, and Shiny. A background in and passion for biological and environmental science is an added plus. Strong communication and collaboration skills coupled with emotional intelligence will enable them to work effectively with their internal and external stakeholders. This candidate should be committed to continuous improvement, receptive to feedback, and able to establish and follow data standards and procedures aligned with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) principles. Additional consideration may be given at the time of interview to candidates who have this training and/or experience.
