Impact Analyst, Waste Sector

Full-time
Salary: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 Annually
Application Deadline: N/A

Carbon Mapper is seeking an Impact Analyst, Waste Sector, to help expand the use and understanding of Carbon Mapper’s methane data in support of meaningful emissions reductions. This role will support the Impact team through a blend of data and policy analysis, impact tracking, project management, and stakeholder engagement.

The analyst will help to translate complex methane data into practical, actionable insights for governments, industry partners, and civil society organizations. Key responsibilities include supporting data collection and analysis processes, summarizing and tracking methane emission trends and policy frameworks; developing evidence-based recommendations; and contributing to reports, briefings, and other materials that advance effective climate action.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working with technical datasets, and motivated by the opportunity to drive methane reductions in the waste sector as part of the global effort to address climate change.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Data Collection

o Support the Waste Program Manager in developing, executing, and tracking waste-sector satellite tasking to ensure impact objectives and priorities are met.

o Integrate remote sensing data with complementary datasets (e.g., landfill methane inventories, infrastructure maps) to contextualize emissions and support facility-level attribution of methane plumes.

o Coordinate with research partners and stakeholders to leverage data from remote sensing technologies and field-based measurement tools to monitor, characterize, and understand methane emissions.

Research and Analysis

o Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of methane emissions, emissions inventories, and related sectoral data, translating findings into clear, actionable narratives for predominantly non-scientific audiences.

o Analyze methane mitigation policies and regulations- including their implementation- by assessing the effectiveness of existing initiatives and identifying gaps or opportunities for improvement.

o Contribute to the development of clear visualizations, dashboards, and summary metrics that communicate trends and insights effectively.

o Support the creation of high-quality research papers, policy briefs, and technical reports for diverse audiences.

o Stay current on emerging insights related to methane emissions, mitigation policies, and technologies in the waste sector.

Project Management

o Maintain internal documentation and tracking systems to support impact measurement, relationship management, and information sharing for waste-sector priorities and initiatives.

o Support project management for special projects and strategic initiatives, including coordination with key partner organizations.

Stakeholder Engagement and Science Communications

o Support the Impact team by engaging with waste-sector stakeholders to communicate Carbon Mapper’s work, identify areas for collaboration, and coordinate follow-up as needed.

o Help identify proactive and reactive stakeholder engagement opportunities.

o Assist in drafting reports, memos, presentations, and other written materials.

o Represent Carbon Mapper at external meetings and events, as needed.

o   Support communications efforts, including newsletters, social media, and other external engagement activities.

o   Help plan and coordinate Carbon Mapper workshops, webinars, and other events.
