Responsible for the development and oversight of mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) files for the Department of Emergency Services. Provides technical assistance to Department staff in developing mapping and or digital files that support our public safety mission, systems, and projects. The work requires a high degree of accuracy and involves the application of GIS, Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) Core Services (NGCS) and Master Street Address Guide (MSAG) Conversion Service (MCS) use principles to support our public safety mission, position functions as specialists in an assigned project or functional area within the department. Overall goals are set, and the worker determines the specific tasks and assignments to be performed, independently handling new, unusual problems and deviations encountered in the work.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in science, technology, engineering, geography, or related field. A combination of education and experience within the GIS profession, preferably with an emphasis on public safety, may be substituted. Three years of information technology/GIS experience required.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
National Emergency Number Association - Emergency Number Professional certification.
Special Requirements/Qualifications:
Must successfully pass a background investigation.
Must attend educational sessions as required.
Must work beyond the normal scheduled hours of work and in a stressful environment.
Must work nights, holidays, and weekends if necessary.
Must be available on an on-call basis.
Must work irregular duty assignments.
Must wear a uniform and safety equipment at times.
Must be able to travel, if required.
