Job Summary & General Information

Under general direction of the GIS Manager, performs general support and maintenance for the GIS systems and the Cityworks/Trimble Unity enterprise work order management system for the City of Alpharetta.  Provides user support and assistance to all City employees, contracts, and vendors related to the systems mentioned.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. 

  • Organizes and participates in the development, maintenance, and utilization of the City’s GIS
  • Administers the City’s GIS activities
  • At the direction of the GIS Manager, manages the work of outside contractors in implementing GIS data for the City
  • Administrator of the City’s Cityworks/Trimble UnitySystem

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of database maintenance and administration.
  • Principles and practices of system testing, analysis and security administration.
  • Asset Management and Permit Management systems. Cityworks/Trimble Unity  Preferred.
  • Relational database design and methodology.  Microsoft SQL Server is preferred.
  • Transact SQL, Python, and/or Arcade languages.
  • Methods and techniques used in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of application hardware and software.
  • Methods and techniques of evaluating client information and technology requirements.
  • Methods and techniques of using application design and development tools.
  • Windows operating systems.
  • Principles and practices of computer science and information systems.
  • Methods and techniques of developing technical manuals and instructional materials.
  • Principles and practices of customer service.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and oral speaking skills.

  • Operate remote controlled drone.

Minimum Qualifications

Combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job qualifies.
 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, information systems, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or a related field.  
  • Two years of experience with GIS administration with systems analysis and design work 
  • Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) Terminal Operator certification within one year of date of hire.

Preferred:

  • GISP Certification 
  • Remote Pilot Certification (Part 107)
  • Project management or leadership responsibilities highly desirable.
