As a Supervisory Geodesist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Provide daily management and supervision of a geodetic branch of employees who are responsible for the processing and analysis of high-accuracy Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data for several geometric geodesy activities at the National Geodetic Survey. The geometric geodesy activities include the research and development of multi-GNSS baseline processing software, determination of precise GPS satellite orbits and the extension of the capability to determine multi-GNSS orbits, modeling of the trajectories of the CORS for use as primary geodetic control, and the maintenance of terrestrial reference frames. Additional activities include the development of map projections, computation and stewardship of geodetic coordinate transformations, and the development and support of online GNSS processing software known as the Online Positioning User Service (OPUS).
  • Support the development of software to process geodetic data, such as from GNSS, differential leveling, and classical techniques. Ensure an optimal web presence and contribute to the development of geodetic surveying manuals and standards. Once new tools are developed, ensure implementation and manage the maintenance of these tools.
  • Plan, organize and manage all technical, scientific and administrative functions for the branch, to include direction in guidelines, decisions, methodology, interpretation and evaluation processes caused by changes in program, technological development, unknown phenomena, or conflicting requirements. Oversee the revision of long-range plans, goals and objectives for the work in collaboration with the division chief and other branch chiefs to accomplish the mission. Support the development of training tools and methods of user engagement as needed to facilitate customer support.
  • Perform full range of supervisory actions. Organize and assign work, and make changes or adjustments in internal functions to better accomplish mission objectives. Establish performance standards and complete the evaluation process, addressing poor performance as required. Recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments, hear and resolve grievances and provide disciplinary actions, as appropriate.
