The Maryland State Geographic Information Committee (MSGIC) is a non-profit organization that acts to promote coordinated development and efficient use of resources amongst all entities involved in the collection and/or use of spatial data and GIS technologies in Maryland.
MSGIC represents Maryland’s GIS Community, with members representing all geospatial stakeholders (Government, Education Sector, Research Institutions, and Private Entities). As communicators of GIS activities in Maryland, MSGIC strives to streamline efforts among our geospatial stakeholders for the benefit of GIS users across Maryland. Members of MSGIC are advocates for geospatial initiatives, projects, services, and data. Many of our members are professionals providing expertise and experience to educate the community about GIS.
Position Description:
MSGIC is looking for a talented undergraduate or graduate student from an accredited institution to provide key support for MSGIC. A MSGIC intern would expect to:
Assist with membership recruiting and managing membership lists.
Assist with GIS mapping and other technology related tasks.
Prepare content for and communicate with members through Social Media and mass marketing tools
Creating & Updating content for the organization’s website (http://msgic.org).
This includes researching GIS-related events, jobs, and internships in and around Maryland.
Solicit, edit, and write content for MSGIC website, social media, marketing, etc.
Assist with planning of Quarterly and Executive meetings.
Prepare, edit, and distribute documentation for meetings.
Attend Quarterly and Executive Committee meetings.
Other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills:
Familiarity working with and updating CMS sites.
Familiarity working with GIS software (ex. ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, etc.).
Effective communication using Social Media platforms such as LinkedIn.
Strong organization/communication skills and attention to detail.
Additional Information:
This position is anticipated to begin in Summer/Fall 2026. We are seeking a commitment of up to 5 hours per week at an hourly rate of $18 per hour and a maximum of 300 hours per calendar year. Candidates will need to have one year of college eligibility remaining. This position may also be eligible for credit. This internship also includes a free student membership to MSGIC. The position is 100% virtual with flexible hours.
Interns must have access to a computer, as well as transportation to meetings and other events as needed.
