GISCorps is an organized program under the auspices and pursuant to the objectives and principles of the Geospatial Professional Network (GPN), formerly known as URISA. The program was adopted by GPN in 2003.

GISCorps is seeking a part-time GISCorps Executive Director (GED) - for approximately 10 hours per week - to provide strategic and technical leadership and help advance its mission of connecting volunteer GIS professionals with nonprofit and humanitarian organizations in need of geospatial assistance.

The GED will be a trusted senior GIS professional who can provide technical advice, strategic direction, and organizational guidance to GISCorps volunteers, Core Committee members, partner organizations, and the Program Coordinator. The GED will report to the GISCorps Advisory Board and GPN’s Executive Director.

Key Qualifications 

  • Strong, senior-level expertise in GIS and geospatial technologies and the ability to provide sound technical advice and evaluate GIS projects’ requests.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional GIS/geospatial experience, including project or technical leadership.
  • Experience with several areas of GIS, such as Web GIS, spatial analysis, geospatial data management, remote sensing, and project management.
  • GIS leadership experience with nonprofit, humanitarian, volunteer-based, or governmental organizations is highly desirable.
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and relationship-

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide GIS technical advice and strategic guidance to GISCorps leadership and
  • Participate in discussions with organizations requesting GISCorps assistance and help assess projects’ needs and feasibilities.
  • Participate in the monthly GISCorps Core Committee meeting and meetings with prospective partner agencies (~4-5 per month, based on number of project requests).
  • Meet periodically with the Program Coordinator to provide guidance on GISCorps processes, documentation, and organizational matters.
  • Represent GISCorps at selected GIS, nonprofit, or professional events (generally 1-2 times per year).
  • Develop recommendations for a sustainable fundraising approach to support GISCorps' staffing and technology needs.

Position Details
